My dad recently asked me to clean out my childhood belongings stored in his garage. As I rifled through the boxes, I came across this photo. There was something about it that struck me, the composition, the colours, the memory of taking it and what I was thinking at the time. I must have been about 10 or 11… young enough to have a corporate calendar/map poster on my wall and not think it was lame.

I remember rushing to take this photo of the cat before she moved off my bed and intentionally placing the bunny toy directly behind her, to make the photo more interesting.

Not long after, she was hit and killed by a car directly in front of our house. Mum found her when she came home from work and had to deliver the bad news.
