Vanessa Kappler

I stayed at my sister’s place that summer. She was living in a cave in the hills of Granada with her dog, Filou. We decided to take her mattress outside to sleep under the stars. We cooked with a solar oven, took showers with cold water from the hose and had to use a dry toilet. It was better than any pool or beach vacation. We just enjoyed the modest lifestyle, not worrying about anything.

I still envy her for how she lived. Mostly, I think, because I couldn’t live like that for more than a summer.
